I’ve dealt with my dad and grandmother having dementia. It was like watching them die twice. People who haven’t dealt with it don’t understand how devastating and unfunny it is.

It really still shocks me, though, like how can someone be THAT detached from the unfunny-ness of it?

Glad I found this today in a sea of self-help quotes! I was a book editor a long time ago, and I understand how agents are always looking for the easiest, most obvious hook. I have a feeling that you're going to succeed and write the book you want! Following along!

Thank you so much!!

Unreal, though nothing surprises me. I’d rather hear business ideas from you because you’ve built something from the ground up.

Thank you! Yes, I'd MUCH rather do that. I couldn't believe I had to explain to her why her idea was bad.

Infuriating! This reminds me of when people say having dementia isn't that bad because 'you meet new people every day!' UGH...

Rachael Wonderlin's avatar

UGH I haven't heard that one in a while, mostly I hear, "Uh oh, I forgot XYZ, don't diagnose me!" Eye roll.

So ignorant.

Taking your lead. Thank you.

I just wish that second conversation had been waaaaay different!

Write the book in excerpts and post on social media as a lifeline to the caregivers.

Which book? I have 3 published books with Hopkins Press about dementia but 100% none are funny, I don’t want to write that book. This post was all about my 4th book, a book on business.

The funny book is about business, not dementia. I would never write a funny book about dementia.

We disagree on that. Funny stories are different than making fun. Humor is a tool.

I wouldn't know how to write that book without punching-down. Just make sure you read the full post, she had a bad idea.
